Implementation plans of Kao-Ping River and Fong-Shan River-point source management and river water inspection

Abstract Kao-Ping River and Fong-Shan River have been heavily polluted by industrial and livestock wastewater. The “Implementation plans of Kao-Ping River and Fong-Shan River-point source management and river water inspection” was carried out to improve the river water quality, ban the illegal effluents and force the wastewater to be well-treated. The general inspections of industrial factories and livestock farm, detections of unknown effluent pipelines was carried on from April 25 to November 30, 2007 by Environmental Protection Bureau, Kaohsiung County. 1.134 animal farms were inspected for 256 times and 54 factories were inspected for121 times in Kao-Ping River watershed. All the 188 registered factories and animal farms in Kao-Ping River watershed had been inspected. 2.In Fong-Shan River watershed, 9 tanneries were inspected for 89 times; 30 metalwork were inspected for 267 times and 5 electroplating factories were inspected for 49 times. All the 242 registered factories in Fong-Shan River watershed had been inspected. 3.19 and 24 offenders had been reported by EPB in Kao-Ping and Fong-Shan River respectively. Further monitoring on the offenders will be still carrying on by EPB. 4.39 general inspections have been completed for the un-registered factories on Fong-Jen Road, Fong-Shan City. 5.Functional tests of wastewater treatment plants for 10 factories have been completed. 6.For those pig farms which were dismantled and compensated by the government, 2,154 times surveys have been carried out and none of new pig farm have found.
